“View from Audresselles beach” painting behind the scenes

Seals are writing their story at the same time as us, they are reconquering the marine landscapes that they once populated and from where they disappeared- hunted for their flesh and for their pelts, but today they are making a comeback thanks to special protection mesures.

The species thrived on the Site des Deux-Caps at the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century, and in 2016, nearly 700 seals were thought to be living from the Belgian border to the Somme Bay. On the Site des Deux-Caps, between 5 and 20 grey seals explore the area between Audresselles and Cap Gris-Nez and several common seals live in Wissant Bay. The seals come over from the east of England, Scotland and the Netherlands. They take up residence in places where fish abounds and where they can rest ans even reproduce like in the Somme Bay.

“Cap de Nice” painting behind the scenes

The “Cap de Nice” is a beautiful place! In bad weather, it is a dangerous place because the waves cover the coastal path which makes it difficult to pass.

A beautiful place in Belgium called Damme! Bad luck for me, it just started to rain about 1 hour after the beginning of the painting. I had to finish it in the studio.
